Attack on referees not from Wikki supporters – Paschal
Former international and member of Wikki Tourists management committee, Patrick Paschal has said fans who unleashed mayhem on referees who officiated the week 33 fixture between the ‘Bauchi elephants’ and Enugu Rangers were not supporters of the club.
After a 1-1 draw on Sunday, some irate fans at the Tafawa Balewa stadium Bauchi molested and injured the match officials.
Speaking to Daily Trust on the sad incident, Paschal said the fan who stoned and injured referee Momoh on the head during the first half of the match is being traced and once arrested would be handed over to the Police for prosecution.
He said it was rather unfortunate that the concerted effort by the management of the club to encourage orderly conduct among the fans was breached by persons masquerading as supporters of Wikki Tourists.
The Coordinator of the Super Eagles maintained that everything humanly possible would be done to bring to book those who perpetrated the acts of hooliganism.
“What happened is very unfortunate and I condemn it completely. Those who committed the offences are not members of Wikki Tourists supporters.
“True fans of the club know the consequences of such behaviour. I suspect strongly that some people with bad intentions only hid under the name of supporters to cause trouble.
“We are still investigating to know those who are behind the ugly situation. We are on the trail of the fan who threw the stone that injured the AR1. Once we get him, we shall hand him over to the Police for the necessary action,” he said.
Paschal therefore called on the supporters of Wikki Tourists to remain of good behaviour saying they should eschew all acts of hooliganism.
