‘Indigenous speed-alert device to save Nigeria N1.2trn annually’

An over-speed-alert device being wholly manufactured in Nigeria will save the country N1.2 trillion in capital flight annually, the inventor of the device Engr Sunday Ojonimi Agada has said.

Briefing the Minister of Science and Technology Ogbonnaya Onu, on the device in Abuja yesterday, Agada said close to N200billion worth of speed limit devices were being shipped into Nigeria from abroad every two month.

He said if his Ikani-Engine Contactless speed limit alert (ECOSA) was eventually launched the huge amount would be saved.

He said the device was 90 per cent completed and would be launched before the end of this year.

The Council for Regulation Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) certified mechanical engineers said the device was capable of drastically reducing road crashes in the country if adopted by the government.

Engr Agada said the indigenous speed alert device was unique because it has the ability to alert the driver of an impending danger like potholes, breakdown vehicle on the road.

“And it can used to track stolen cars and verify fake driver’s license if adopted by FRSC, VIO and others,” he added.

He said he had done a demonstration of how the device works to the officials of the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), the officers of the Nigeria Police Force and officials of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) of the Federal Capital Territory.

According to him, when launched the device will go for N15,000 in the market.

Responding, the minister, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, said the Federal Government would give necessary support to the inventor to launch and commercialise the device.
