Police parade 6 fake pastors over ritual killing in Calabar

- From Eyo Charles, Calabar

Six fake pastors allegedly involved in the killing of a less than two-year-old baby few days ago in Calabar have been paraded by the Cross River State Commissioner of Police Hafiz Inuwa.

They were paraded yesterday at the state police headquarters on Diamond Hill Calabar alongside with the alleged ritual items, including human parts and allied items found in their possession.

Addressing journalists, the spokesperson of the police in the state Irene Ugbo said the suspects were paraded to end insinuations that the police had released them following pressure from certain quarters.

She said after investigations, in about two days the suspects would be charged to the court for prosecution.

The police spokesperson said the heart of the toddler, which Mr Anthony Obo, the founder and pastor of God Commandment Ministry of No 6 Abua Street Calabar allegedly killed, has been deposited at the morgue of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH). She said the police doctors were examining the heart because the said pastor insisted it was not the heart of the baby but that of a chicken.

“When we got the intelligence information about activities of the man, as well as report from the mother of the innocent baby, 20 year old Faith Inyang about the kidnapping of her baby by the pastor and his accomplices, we promptly arrested them. We have found several incriminating evidences, including human parts, which they used for their acts,” Irene said. Speaking, Anthony Obo said he was innocent of the crime and that the items found were normally used in his church for drama and for prayers.

But the mother of the baby said she knew the suspects because they lived in her neighbourhood. “One of them came first in the afternoon and was very nice to the baby. In the night they wore masks to forcefully take the baby from me, hitting me with a knife in the process. I recognise them all. A kind neighbour who chased them was hit with a bottle. They killed my baby,” she said.
