Dosu wants Nigerians to give confidence to Super Eagles goalkeepers
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Dosu Joseph has called on Nigerian football fans to show more confidence in the trio of Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechuwkuw Ezenwa and Dele Alampasu as the Eagles prepare to face Cameroon on Friday.
Without Carl Ikeme, the Super Eagles depended on Daniel Akpeyi against South Africa in the 2019 AFCON qualifier against South Africa but the performance of the Chippa United goalkeeper was said to be below expectations.
As it is most Nigerians have openly expressed doubts about the capabilities of Akpeyi, Ezenwa and Alampasu to stop the rampaging Lions of Cameroon from scoring against the Eagles in Uyo and Yaoundé.
However, in a chat with Daily Trust yesterday, Dosu a former member of the 1996 Olympics gold winning Dream Team said Nigerians should accept the goalkeepers for them to be motivated to give their best against Cameroon.
He said if Nigerians continue to express doubts about the goalkeepers abilities, it will have adverse effect as he said they would naturally not be able to rise to the occasion.
“I want to say there is tension everywhere over the Lions of Cameroon. So it is not only about the goalkeepers. However, if I want to advise Nigerians to accept the goalkeepers and give them the confidence they need.
“These are goalkeepers with experience. Akpeyi has been with the Eagles for a long time now. The same goes for Ezenwa who is the captain of the Home-based Eagles. Alampasu was the best goalkeeper when the Eaglets won the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
“So all they need is the love and support of all Nigerians. If we support them, they will surely grow in confidence and there will be nothing like fear,” he advised.
Dosu therefore charged the goalkeepers to put in their best in order to win the confidence of Nigerian football fans.
