Imenger says Eagles shouldn’t over respect Lions of Cameroon
Former international, Barnabas Imenger has said it will be good for the Eagles to accord the Indomitable Lions the necessary respect but over-respecting them will be counter-productive.
Speaking to Daily Trust, the former BCC Lions and ElKanemi Warriors striker said any match against Cameroon is never an easy one but that should not throw the camp of the Eagles into panic.
Imenger said the fact that some of the experienced players in the team have returned should be enough motivation for some of the young players who need to be guided on the pitch.
He maintained that Eagles are known for delivering results anytime they are faced with difficult assignments like the one against Cameroon.
“Eagles will be up against the reigning African champions and that is no small task. The Lions of Cameroon deserve respect but I want to urge the Eagles not to give them too much respect.
“Eagles will be making a big mistake if they accept defeat before the match is played. They must be ready to take the fight to the Cameroonians.
“Moreover they are on top of the group and should play with less tension. Their opponents are going to play catch up and should be the ones under pressure,” he said.
Imenger therefore called on the Eagles not to show any sign of fear as he said the Lions of Cameroon are also aware of the fact that they will be up against one of the best teams in the world.
