Police commission invites Senator Misau over retirement letters
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has invited Senator Isah Hamma Misau to appear before its panel investigating allegations about special promotions in the Nigeria Police Force.
A statement yesterday from the spokesman of the commission, Ikechukwu Ani said the senator is expected to appear before the panel on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 11.00am.
Ani said the commission, in a letter signed by the chairman of the Special Panel, Justice O. Adekeye, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, stated that the immediate issue for investigation is the genuineness or otherwise of Misau’s two letters of retirement.
He said the panel received correspondence from the Nigeria Police Force Special Investigation Panel (SIP) Force Headquarters dated August 28, 2017 relating to the senator’s retirement from the Nigeria Police Force.
“The Police Service Commission, the only organ saddled with the statutory responsibility of issuing letters of retirement to all police officers except the IGP has a vital role to play in determining the authenticity of this letter,” he said.
Daily Trust reports that Senator Misau and the police have been at loggerheads since the former alleged that the former was collecting bribe to promote its officers.
Meanwhile, a civil society organisation, Salvage for Development Initiative (SDI), has urged the Senate to order Senator Misau back to the police to clear himself of allegations of desertion.
The group made the call in a press statement signed by its Program Director, Abdul Lateef Sanni and National Secretary, Hammed Temilade.
