Why I want to be Anambra governor – Obaze

- By Saawua Terzungwe

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State, Mr Oseloka Obaze, has said he is in the race because the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano, has failed to deliver on his campaign promises to the people.

Obaze, who was the Secretary to the Government of Anambra State during the reign of Peter Obi, accused Obiano in a chat with newsmen yesterday in Abuja, of not funding education properly and not providing a condusive environment for investors to come to the state.

“The incumbent governor is somebody I campaigned for, but I have vast differences with his policies because they are not what we promised,” he said.

He said Obiano had deviated from the worthy programmes of the Peter Obi government and from promises he (Obiano) made to the electorate.

He said although former President Goodluck Jonathan declared Anambra an oil producing state in 2012, the state is yet to earn any derivation fund compared to Lagos which gained the same status only last year.

He said if Anambra had a functional government, the state would not need so much time to finalize modalities that would enable the people earn their rights as people in an oil producing state.

He added that Peter Obi started a policy of giving N5,000 monthly social welfare to indigent Anambra indigenes 75 years and above, but that the Obiano government had allowed the programme to go almost moribund.
