- From Linus Effiong, Umuahia

Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia State was calm yesterday after skirmishes Tuesday and a a curfew imposed by the state government to restore order.

Our correspondent who went round the city, reports that people went about their busineses unhindered outside the curfew hours.

As early as three minutes past 6 o’clock in the morning, residents trooped out of their hours for their various activities.

At the Aba main motor park, it was a beehive of activities as commuters were busy going about their businesses.

It was the same at the Ogbor Hill area, Azikiwe, Ngwa Rd, Faulks, Aba-Owerri, Abayi and other parts of the city.

Civil servants were not left out as they were seen doing their normal duties.

Normal business activities were recorded at the banks, markets, hospitals and filling stations amongst other areas.

Security agents were also performing their statutory duties of protecting lives and property of residents peacefully.

Residents said the curfew was a welcome to check the excesses of people inclined to violence.

It would be recalled that the Abia State government Tuesday advised Aba residents to observe a curfew from 6 o’clock in the evening to 6 o’clock in the morning for three days.
