The FCT police command has arrested three suspected robbers for allegedly snatching a car at gunpoint.

A statement by the command’s spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, said the suspects were arrested at Unguwar Pasali in Kuje, after they snatched a Toyota Sienna bus from its owner.

He said police detectives from the Kuje division swung into action on receipt of a report that the robbers who were armed with two locally made pistols invaded a compound in the area last week Tuesday at about 8pm and robbed the occupants of the car.

He said the suspects also robbed some occupants of the house of undisclosed cash and mobile phones.

Manzah added that the police deployed technology to track down the suspects, whose names he gave as Saaor Liam, 37, of Konshisha local government of Benue State, Babangida Madaki, 30, of Mararaban Rido, Kaduna State and Michael Joseph, 25, of Lugbe, Abuja.

He said they were arrested at Pantaker in Kaduna while they were trying to sell the stolen vehicle, adding that exhibits recovered from them included a golden colour Toyota Sienna with registration number GGE 752DH and two Techno phones.

The statement said efforts have been intensified to arrest the fleeing armourer of the syndicate who is in possession of the two locally made pistols that were used for the operation.

He said the suspects have been transferred to the command Criminal Investigation Department for investigation and prosecution. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Gwagwalada, CSP Obasi Chuks, has solicited for the support and cooperation of religious leaders to tackle crime in the area.

Speaking during an interview with our reporter, Chuks said both religious and community leaders have significant roles to play by supporting and giving vital information to security agencies.

He noted that the division did not record crime during the Eidel Kabir Sallah festival. He urged clerics to report suspicious persons within their domains or worship centres to security agents.

He stressed commitment to tackle crime in Gwgwalada and its environs, noting that vigilante members would be empowered to contribute their quota to protection of lives and property in the area.
