It’s a big relief for me after dumping APC – Party chieftain

- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

A former chieftain and chairmanship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the last area council election in Kuje Area Council, Alhaji Hassan Bako, has said he is happy that he dumped the APC for the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) .

Speaking while addressing some PDP elders and women groups that paid him a visit at the party’s secretariat in Kuje, yesterday, Bako said he would have been embarrassed if he had remained in APC because as a ruling party, it failed to perform.

He said it was unfortunate that the ruling APC had been unable to provide dividends of democracy to the electorate in the area since assumption of office over a year ago.

“I believe you can recall that I was part of the APC and also chairmanship aspirant of the party during the last election. But it was unfortunate that the party has derailed from its manifesto, which was among what made me to defect from the PDP,” he said.

He said despite the complaints of the party over lack of funds, the little the council was receiving could not be utilized to provide amenities to the rural people, saying “I can’t imagine that the government was owing staff salaries for three to four months,” he said.

Bako, therefore, expressed confidence that the opposition PDP has been meeting both day and night to restrategise to wrest power from the APC come 2019 in the area.
