6 killed as cult gangs clash in Lagos

- From Eugene Agha, Lagos

Six people were killed and several others injured during an attack by two rival cult gangs, Okepopo boys and their rival, Onola gang, on Lagos Island.

One of the gang leaders said to be fueling the war on the Island was identified as Abdul Rasaq Kareem, aka Falapa.

The battle of supremacy between the two gangs saw members using automatic rifles while some brandished their locally made guns.

Those killed in the war were identified simply as Irabor and Mustapha and four others whose names could not be ascertained.

It was gathered that Falapa had vowed to take the war to the doorstep of his rival gang members, who he alleged had killed three of his gang members.

A witness said yesterday that six members of the Onola cult gang were killed during attacks between Friday and Monday.

The witness said, “To make his plan successful, he bought new guns and had been looking for opportunity to execute his mission which he succeeded during the 155th year celebration of Epetedo’s existence. Falapa and his gang pursued Onola boys who left the area at 3.30am and attacked them along Tokunbo Street where two people died. Also, on Friday night, one Irabor from Onola was shot dead by Falapa at Atiko area on the Island, Mustapha (Son of late Suraju omo Iya Sari) was shot dead by same Falapa on Sunday afternoon along Branco Street and two others were killed at Okepopo area when the Onola boys went to make a reprisal attack on Monday morning.”
