- By David Ngobua

Highest goal scorer in the just concluded NPFL season, Lobi Stars Anthony Okpotu has said his first goal for the Super Eagles Team B is a great inspiration for him as he hopes to score more goals for club and country.

The Lobi Stars marksman who scored 19 goals to top the NPFL goal scorers chart scored Nigeria’s opening goal in the 2-0 win over Ghana at the ongoing WAFU Cup in Ghana.

Plateau United’s Peter Eneji scored the second to hand Nigeria her first victory at the regional competition.

Okpotu told Daily Trust that being part of the national team is great achievement but scoring his first national team goal is the icing on the cake.

He said he is highly motivated to work harder in order to join the main team of the Super Eagles.

The Benue State born striker also said his target is to help the team win the WAFU Cup before the CHAN tournament in 2018.

“I am presently having the best moment of my career. It is said God’s time is the best and this is what is happening to me.

“I had to wait for sometime but now it is the time for me to make my contribution in the national team. My first goal for Nigeria is a morale booster.

“I am motivated by it to do more for my country. I am not going to rest on my oars as I hope to score more goals to help my team win the trophy.

“I therefore dedicate the goal to God who made it possible and to my team mates for their invaluable support. Together we shall do Nigeria proud,” he said.
