Reps probe Kano CP over Kwankwaso/Ganduje feud
The House of Representatives has directed its public petitions committee to investigate allegations of partisanship against the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Yusuf, in the political fight between supporters of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The investigation followed a petition by Danyaya Chambers, on behalf of Kwankwasiyya Movement, laid yesterday on the floor of the House by one of the staunch loyalists of Kwankwaso, Rep. Aliyu Sani Madaki (APC, Kano).
In the petition, the Kwankwasiyya supporters alleged that on September 2, the CP and some of his officers “watched and actively participated” when some members of the movement “were attacked by organised political thugs, led by some government officials” at the venue of ‘Hawan Daushe’.
Presenting the petition, Madaki said supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement “watched helplessly” when they were attacked with various types of weapons, causing serious injuries in the presence of the police, who instead of protecting them, allegedly joined by firing teargas towards them.
He said members of the movement continued to face constant harassment in the state, and that if no action was taken urgently, the situation might go out of hand.
“By this petition, we hope sir, you will dispassionately investigate these and many other actions of CP Rabiu Yusuf and redress them before the situation gets out of hand, so that Kano will once again enjoy peace,” the petitioners said.
Speaker Yakubu Dogara, who presided over yesterday’s plenary, referred the matter to the public petitions panel to investigate it.
