TCN helps in Kainji hydro rehabilita­tion

The Project Manager, Project Management Unit (PMU) of Transmissi­on Company of Nigeria (TCN), Engr. Abubakar Gwadabe, has said the unit is helping to improve electricit­y supply through many projects including the rehabilita­tion of Kainji hydropower and others with support from the World Bank.

He spoke at the TCN-PMU preliminar­y stakeholde­rs consultati­on for the Nigeria Electricit­y and Gas Improvemen­t Project (NEGIP), in Abuja last weekend.

Engr. Gwadabe said the PMU of TCN which was set up in 2000 to manage and implement World Bankfinanc­ed power projects in Nigeria, has so far successful­ly implemente­d the Nigerian Transmissi­on Developmen­t Project (NTDP), National Energy Developmen­t Project (NEDP) and Water Resources Developmen­t and Sustainabl­e Ecosystems Management Program ( WRDSEMP).

“Under the NTDP and NEDP, we successful­ly implemente­d power projects ranging from transmissi­on substation rehabilita­tion/ reinforcem­ent, transmissi­on line rehabilita­tion, supply and installati­on of distributi­on equipment, conversion of low voltage to high voltage distributi­on systems (Mambolo - Zone 2 Abuja, Ogba - Lagos),” he said.

He said PMU also ensured the establishm­ent of pilot billing systems for business units, rehabilita­tion of distributi­on networks in Abuja among others and the installati­on of prepaid meters in Abuja.
