TCN helps in Kainji hydro rehabilitation
The Project Manager, Project Management Unit (PMU) of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Engr. Abubakar Gwadabe, has said the unit is helping to improve electricity supply through many projects including the rehabilitation of Kainji hydropower and others with support from the World Bank.
He spoke at the TCN-PMU preliminary stakeholders consultation for the Nigeria Electricity and Gas Improvement Project (NEGIP), in Abuja last weekend.
Engr. Gwadabe said the PMU of TCN which was set up in 2000 to manage and implement World Bankfinanced power projects in Nigeria, has so far successfully implemented the Nigerian Transmission Development Project (NTDP), National Energy Development Project (NEDP) and Water Resources Development and Sustainable Ecosystems Management Program ( WRDSEMP).
“Under the NTDP and NEDP, we successfully implemented power projects ranging from transmission substation rehabilitation/ reinforcement, transmission line rehabilitation, supply and installation of distribution equipment, conversion of low voltage to high voltage distribution systems (Mambolo - Zone 2 Abuja, Ogba - Lagos),” he said.
He said PMU also ensured the establishment of pilot billing systems for business units, rehabilitation of distribution networks in Abuja among others and the installation of prepaid meters in Abuja.
