'B/Haram suspect told co-detainee about membership'
A suspected Boko Haram member standing trial before a Federal High Court in Abuja on terrorism charges attempted to lure other detainees to join the terror group, court documents revealed.
The suspect, Musibahu Mohammed, was arrested on July 9, 2011 alongside others at large by a member of a vigilante group on patrol in Kashere town, Gombe State and handed over to the police.
The case summary against Mohammed alleged that he escaped in the process of interrogation. It was further alleged that Mohammed participated in the attack on Alkaleri Police Station.
“Musibahu Mohammed was conveying the other suspects to Gombe State passing through an obscure road so that they will not be noticed by the security checking point on the main road after the attack at Alkaleri.
“The suspect on interrogation gave his name as Usman Ibrahim at Kashere and confessed to one of the detainees at Kashere that he is a Boko Haram member.
“But when the case was transferred to Bauchi Police Force Headquarters, he gave his real name as Musibahu Mohammed.
“In his statement, he confessed to have participated in the attack at Alkaleri,” the case summary said.
He is accused a five-count charge of knowingly facilitating and assisting activities of persons engaged in an act of terrorism. He is also charged with participating in the destruction of Alkaleri Divisional Police Station.
He is further accused of promoting, encouraging or exhorting others to commit an act of terrorism, an offence contrary to Section 2(1) of the Terrorism (Prevention) Act, 2011. in
