Natives call for monitoring of councils’ funds unfair - Kwali boss

- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

The Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Mr. Joseph K. Shazin, has said that the call by natives of the FCT on the minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, recently to monitor monthly allocation given to area councils is unfair.

Shazin, was reacting to a statement issued by the group’s spokesman, Ahmadu Yunusa Yusuf, in which he advised the minister to monitor how the monthly allocation to the area councils were being utilized.

He said the natives were free to contact the chairmen for clarification on any issue, stressing that there are many agencies overseeing the area councils, which include internal auditors at the council level, federal auditors, ICPC, EFCC as well as the National Assembly.

“So the natives’ group don’t have any cause to come and make statement to mean that the area council chairmen are being extravagant. But as citizens they have right to advise the minister on what to do,” he said.

The chairman said when the council chairmen celebrated their one year in office, the groups were not part of the celebration, adding that town hall meetings were held across the six area councils.

Shazin added, “I don’t think they know what they are doing because we have major issues that we are pursuing, while they are busy pursuing council chairmen who are even running the area councils with meagre funds with high salary emoluments.”
