Most lifestyle diseases are preventable, a lifestyle and wellness consultant at the Grover Medical Lifestyle Clinic, Mr. Sunday Clement, has said.

Some common lifestyle diseases include diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, stroke and cancer among others.

He stated this during the opening ceremony of the Grover Medical Lifestyle Clinic in Lagos.

Mr. Clement said: “For instance, prolonged sitting can cause diabetes. If you’re the type that sits, for example on the computer for a very long time, like four hours, and you don’t stand up in between, and which has become your habit; you have a high risk of coming down with diabetes.

“For example, people spend hours sitting in vehicles in Lagos traffic, which has become a lifestyle here. There are certain things that people need to incorporate into their daily life; we call it lifestyle revolution.

“At Grover Medical’s Lifestyle Clinic, we’re trying to push that idea of lifestyle revolution so that people can become self-conscious to find a balance so that they don’t end up with diabetes, cardiovascular problems etc,” he said.

The chairman of the clinic’s board, Chief Anil Grover, said the clinic was established as a special purpose vehicle to drive the campaign and necessity for preventive health through effective lifestyle modification and clinical management.

He said: “Our mission is to enhance the health and wellbeing of our clients by providing an affordable and highquality preventive as well as clinical care of lifestyle diseases. Our vision is to become the first choice medical institution in Nigeria for the management of lifestyle diseases.”

The hospital called on all Nigerians to embrace lifestyle revolution to significantly reduce loss of lives to preventable lifestyle diseases in the country.
