Rotary Club offers free medical tests, treatment to Gidan Gimba community

The Rotary Club of Abuja, Central Business District (CBD) on Sunday offered free medical tests and treatment to 210 rural dwellers in Gidan Gimba village in Karu Local Government of Nasarawa State.

Gidan Gimba, is an adopted village of the club.

The health outreach conducted by the club was also to mark the 57th Independen­ce Anniversar­y of Nigeria, in line with the 2017 Rotary Family Health Days which commenced on September 28 across the World.

Ms Evelyn Onyilo, the Chartered Secretary of the club, who led the team, said out of the 210 participan­ts, a total of 80 were offered family counseling.

Onyilo also said 81 people underwent HIV, type B and C Hepatitis tests while 100 of them were screened for malaria.

According to her, the 81 persons screened for HIV tested negative.

She however said two persons tested positive to type B Hepatitis, adding that the affected persons were referred to the hospital to commence treatment.

She further said that 109 children were de-wormed, adding that a total of 48 sanitary towels were distribute­d to young women in the community.

The team leader also said 64 children were administer­ed Vitamin A supplement while 51 treated mosquito nets were distribute­d to families.

NAN also reports that a sizeable number of male and female condoms were shared to the youths of the community.

Onyilo, therefore, thanked the community leader, Chief Danjuma Audu for giving the club access to his subjects, adding that Rotary was only committed to the wellbeing of the people.

On his part, Audu expressed delight on the adoption of the village by the club, adding that the community had benefitted tremendous­ly from their goodwill and assistance since the synergy was struck. (NAN)
