-

Nigerian players participating in the Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship have been charged to take advantage the tournament provided for them.

Nigeria Tennis Federation President, Engr. Dayo Akindoju, who made the call in Lagos yesterday, was particularly referring to the junior players given wild card to the main draw of the ITF Pro Circuit tournament billed to hold from October 6-31, 2017.

Akindoju urged the four beneficiaries of the wild card, Oyinlomo Quadre Adetayo Adetunji Angel Mcleod and Christopher Bulus, should learn from their experience in the tournament as part of foundation for their progress as they move to the senior level.

“What this will do to them (junior players) is that it will boost their profile but more importantly, they should make use of the chance by putting in their best so that the experience gained will help them in future.

Without taking anything away from our senior players, the future lies in our junior players and we should remain steadfast in making sure they fulfil their potential by exposing them to international tournaments very early,” he said.

He commended the Lagos State Government for consistently committing it’s resources to the tournament noting it’s the longest international sporting event currently in Nigeria. He also thumbed up the organisers for keeping a high standard of what has been one of the events that has constantly been projecting Nigeria positively to the rest of the world.

LOL boss, Chief Pius Akinyelure noted that of the 73 Futures Tournament across the world in October, only two in America, two in Italy and one each in Italy, Sweden, France and Kazakhstan matched the $100, 000 prize money of the Governors Cup.
