Police to investigate Nasarawa Poly student’s attempted suicide
Nasarawa state Police Command said it would investigate the attempted suicide by one Chinedu Iromuanya, a student of Nasarawa state Polytechnic, Lafia.
The student, who is an indigene of Abia state and an ND 2 student of the Polytechnic’s Department of Public Administration, was said have attempted committing suicide through drinking ‘sniper’ (an insecticide) on October 2 in Lafia.
The command Public Relation Officer (PPRO) DSP Idrisu Kennedy, who disclosed this in a chat with newsmen yesterday in Lafia, said that although the management of the polytechnic is yet report the case in the police station, “I would confirm from our officers in charge of the area where the incident happened to unravel the reason for the attempted suicide.”
He also advised the students and the management of the institution to reports any suspicious person, movement or activities to the law enforcement agencies for prompt action.
He appealed to the students to be law abiding and not to take the law into their hands adding that the police would do everything possible to protect lives and properties in the school.
A nurse with the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia who spoke with Daily Trust off the record confirmed that Iromuanya was rushed to the hospital and was later discharged from the Tuesday.
The Public Relation Officer of the polytechnic, Mukhtar Wakeel, however said he is not aware of the incident but asked for time to investigate the matter and get accurate information.
