We can’t handle roads alone – Gwagwalada boss
The Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Adamu Mustapha, has said the council cannot handle all the roads in the area alone.
Mustapha made the assertion on Friday when he led the secretary of the Area Council Services Secretariat, Adamu Abubakar Bappah, to the palace of the Aguma of Gwagwalada.
He added that roads in the metropolis were dilapidated and that the presence of Federal Government institutions and agencies in the area has brought an influx of people hence there was pressure on the roads.
He appealed for assistance from the FCT administration in fixing the roads.
“Before this administration came on board, most of the roads in Gwagwalada were in deplorable state. We have embarked on the rehabilitation and construction of some of them but we can’t finish them alone. We are appealing to the FCT administration to come and intervene,” he said.
The chairman also called on the FCT administration to lift the embargo placed on the appointment of district heads, saying there were three district heads whose stools have remained vacant after their death.
“In fact my father who died some years ago was a district head and up till now there is no new district head in my village, which was as a result of the embargo placed by the former FCT permanent secretary, “he said.
Responding, the secretary assured the traditional ruler that the team would take stock of all the challenges and present them before the minister for action.
He said it was on that premise that the minister directed his office to lead a team on a tour of all the six area councils and their chiefdoms to interact with all stakeholders and chiefs to know what their challenges were.
