A non-governmental organisation, Connected Development (CODE), says it is mobilising community members and other stakeholders to monitor the implementation of the Universal Basic Education Commission’s (UBEC) N266.8 million projects in four local government areas of Kaduna State.

Speaking at a town hall meeting with community members and relevant stakeholders at Kufana in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna, the Senior Programme Manager of CODE, Chambers Umezulike, explained that the project, supported by MacArthur Foundation, will track the implementation of UBEC projects in 70 schools in the state, starting with 23 schools in Jema’a, Kajuru, Kudan and Zangon Kataf LGAs.

According to him, CODE has commenced tracking process in 23 schools. He further noted that 16 of the projects have been awarded at the cost of N266.8 million in the selected LGAs.

The essence of the town hall meeting, he said, was to bring relevant stakeholders together to discuss the projects for effective oversight as well as to get the community members fully involved.

“We have held similar meetings in Kudan, Jema’a and Zangon Kataf LGAs with active community participation, and project implementation is at about 70 per cent completion stage. The pace of work at Kajuru LGA is very slow at about 40 per cent completion,” Umezulike said.

In his remark, the Permanent Secretary of Kaduna SUBEB, Mrs Kande Bage, urged community members to monitor and maintain school infrastructures in their areas.
