Leaving APC now would be Kwankwaso’s worst mistake - Ex-aide

- From Andrew Agbese, Kaduna

A former adviser to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Alhaji Ahmed Shuaib Gara-Gombe, has advised the former governor to perish the thought of leaving the APC for now.

Gara-Gombe, who worked as adviser to Kwankwaso when he was governor for two years, said leaving the APC would be Kwankwaso’s worst political miscalculation.

Also a former aide to then PDP national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, he said though he recalled being the first to announce Kwankwaso’s intention to leave the PDP in 2013, the odds that made him support Kwankwaso’s decision then were different now.

He said in the build up to the 2015 elections, it was clear that the forces that controlled the blocs that formed the APC were disposed favourably towards having Kwankwaso as one of the leaders of the party.

Gara-Gombe said that in the current dispensation, such thought does not exist in the PDP.

He said Kwankwaso should not believe that because he beat Atiku in the last APC presidential primary, the next PDP primary would be a repeat of what transpired then.

He said the forces in the PDP now were different, stressing that Atiku is more desperate because this would be his final opportunity to take a shot at the presidency.

He said, “Since Kwankwaso has age on his side, I’ll advise him to work with President Muhammadu Buhari till 2023 because by the time Buhari serves his second term, Kwankwaso would be the biggest political icon in the North and he can take off from there.”

Gara-Gombe said those advising Kwankwaso to leave the APC were not doing so for his interest but theirs.
