Ekowe Polytechnic: Royal father says lawmaker’s claims are incorrect
The Ibenanawei of Bomo kingdom and pioneer chairman of Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM King Joshua Igbugburu, has condemned a statement by the chairman House Committee on Tertiary Education, Aminu Suleiman, in which he said the Polytechnic Ekowe was occupied by rats and lizards and likely to be skipped in the 2018 budget.
King Igbugburu who was reacting to a publication accredited to the lawmaker, titled ‘Federal Polytechnic Ekowe Occupied by Rats, Lizards’, said the statement was aimed at causing confusion and protests in the Niger Delta.
He called on the leadership of the House to call Rep Suleiman to order, saying his claims were incorrect.
He urged the committee to disregard the insinuation, adding rather, the polytechnic needed a road to connect it because of the difficult terrain.
The monarch, in a statement, also advised the Federal Government to provide adequate funds to the institution rather than the threat to skip the school in the 2018 budget.
According to the statement, King Igbugburu said he held a meeting with lawmakers representing Bayelsa State in the House of Representatives on the issue recently, where the lawmakers assured him of taking up the matter with the relevant authorities and that there was no cause for alarm.
