Re: Priority needs of Funtua

-

We would like to commend His Excellency, Governor Aminu Bello Masari for a number of on-going projects in Funtua Local Government Area, especially upgrading of Funtua General Hospital, BATC and rehabilitation of several primary schools in Funtua Local Government Area.

Katsina State government deserves commendation for its timely intervention in the areas of education and health, particularly recruitment exercise in these two areas which was acclaimed state-wide. Also the recent increase of students intake into the School of Nursing from 50 to 100 which for the past 50 years has not been reviewed is worthy of praise.

Sir, you may wish to recall that the officials of Funtua Consultative Forum paid you a courtesy visit on Friday 20th January, 2017 at Government House Katsina where we presented to you our priority needs for your kind consideration and necessary action.

The essence of this letter is to candidly remind you on those priority needs of Funtua Local Government presented to you by this Forum. Now that we are in the year 2018, Funtua Community wants more developmental projects such as Tertiary Institution, Road Projects, and Schools rehabilitation among others. We believe there is need for fairness and serious intervention for the development of this part of the state, which is very vital for the development of Katsina State as a whole.

In view of this, Funtua Community requests for the establishment of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University Campus in Funtua, the proposed campus is to house the following Faculties: Agriculture, Engineering and Environmental Studies. As for the site, Government can use the College of Administration and Songhai Farms as temporary sites.

If the above request is granted, it would at least provide the Funtua Senatorial Headquarters as the agrarian area the opportunity to have a degree awarding institution.

More so, the gesture will greatly balance up His Excellency’s already plan of converting Yusuf Bala Usman College of Legal and General Studies, Daura to a second State Polytechnic. The process that we reliably understand is getting serious attention in the State House of Assembly, at the time when Senator Bukar Daura, representing Daura Senatorial District presented a bill for the establishment of Federal Polytechnic also in Daura. The Bill has already passed second reading.

We also wish to draw your attention on the deplorable condition of Government College Pilot Funtua (Your Alma Mata), Government College Day Wing, Government Day Secondary School Funtua and Government Technical College Funtua. This would justify what the Government has already done in Malumfashi Local Government Area in terms of Secondary Schools rehabilitation.

Road Infrastructure: In the area of road infrastructure, Funtua desires the ‘dualization’ of Bakin Dutse-Zaria Road-Unguwar Dahiru and that of Jabiri Junction to Maigamji. There are other several inter-quarters roads within the metropolis that either needs rehabilitation or construction.

Similarly, our rural roads are in deplorable condition, hence, deserving government’s attention. Some of these roads are:

Gwaigwaye-Dandume Road Goya-Danja Road

Funtua Central Motor Park: Sir, work on the Motor Park has started in April this year, but, no significant progress has been recorded as construction is at DBC level. We therefore, hope that the project will be speed up in view of its importance to the economy of Funtua in particular and the state in general.

Housing Estate:

The importance of shelter cannot be overemphasized, we learnt that the previous administration has proposed to build housing estate along Funtua northern bye pass. We request your Excellency to actualize the proposal.

Water Supply:

Mairuwa and Gwaigwaye Dams need dredging; there is also need for reticulation of pipes in Funtua metropolis. We believe doing this will enhance water supply and promote irrigation in the Local Government and neighbouring LGAs such as Faskari, Dandume and Bakori .

Township Stadium:

Funtua Township Stadium is among the old stadia in the state that are yet to be rehabilitated, FCF hopes that the state government will intervene and upgrade the stadium.

Since the normal disengagement of Engr. Idris Umar from service in 2016, Funtua is yet to have a Permanent Secretary in the State Civil Service, we hope His Excellency will appoint one soon.

Finally, we hope you would use your good office and consider this request.

Rabiu Umar Maska, Publicity Secretary, Funtua Consultative Forum
