UNDP trains 850 youths on rehabilitation of insurgency victims
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has organized a training programme for 850 youths to ensure sustainable rehabilitation and settlement of victims of insurgency in communities affected by it.
The training which took place at the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre in Jos, the Plateau State capital, was funded by the German government in collaboration with Borno, Yobe and Adamawa state governments.
Speaking at the training, the Country Director of UNDP, Samuel Bwalya, said the training would strengthen the capacity of the youths in many ways.
Represented by Mr. Mathew Alao, Samuel Bwalya said UNDP intervention in the north-east focused on reconstruction, rehabilitation of public infrastructure, restoration of livelihood for conflict victims and access to justice and rule of law.
In his remark, the Director General of the Citizenship and leadership Training Centre, Mr. Jonah Bawa, said youths needed to be recognized and constantly trained in this instance.
He said it was very painful that various socio-political menaces such as violence and destruction of lives and property were perpetuated by the youth.
In a welcome address, the Unit Coordinator, Mallam Abdulmumini Maimako, said the youths in the north-east played a crucial role in helping the military during their operation in the region.
On his part, the course officer, Mr. Oluwasola Elisha Segun, explained that the training was designed to change the mindsets and behaviours of the participants regarding violence and insurgency.
