Taraba’s anti-grazing law takes effect tomorrow
Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku has said that the anti-open grazing law, billed to take effect from tomorrow, will now be implemented in phases.
Darius’s Deputy, Haruna Manu, while briefing newsmen in Jalingo yesterday shortly after a meeting with traditional rulers and security chiefs, said the process would include a workshop on Thursday in Jalingo and other workshops across the other local government areas and development areas in the days and weeks ahead.
Alhaji Haruna Manu stated that training of marshals and provision of necessary infrastructure as provided by the law would follow while the government would intensify efforts to put in place pilot ranches that would serve as model for other people to key into.
Governor Ishaku, according to Haruna Manu, had firm belief that the law would turn around the economic fortunes of the state, as when fully implemented it would put an end to the perennial herders/ farmers crisis.
He said herders had already indicated interest to partner with the government by keying into the law once the necessary infrastructure was in place.
The state chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria MCBAN, Alhaji Sahabi Tukur, recently called on the governor to give more time before the implementation of the law to give room for more consultations and for more infrastructure before the law would be implemented
