- By David Ngobua

Plateau United yesterday displayed champions stuff as they whipped El-Kanemi Warriors 3-0 with Jimmy Ambrose, Joshua Obaje and Raphael Ayagwa scoring a goal each in the massacre.

Jimmy Ambrose put the champions in the lead in the 2nd minute of the match before Joshua Obaje doubled the lead in the 18th minute.

On resumption of the second half, Plateau United did not allow their opponents to settle down as former Lobi Stars man Raphael Ayagwa capitalised on clumsy defending by the Warriors to score the third goal for his side.

With the convincing win, Plateau United have returned to the summit of the table following the 0-1 loss of Lobi Stars against Yobe Desert Stars in Damaturu.

In other matches, Dennis Nya and Victor Mbaoma scored a goal each to give Akwa United a crucial 2-1 away win over Niger Tornadoes just as Heartland FC forced debutants Go Round to a 1-1 draw in Omoku.

Former champions Kano Pillars proved to be the stronger side as they over powered Abia Warriors 2-1 with Lokosa Junior scoring the vital equaliser and his fourth goal of the season.

Although Nyima Nwagua had given the ‘masu gida’ boys the lead in the 28th minute, Ndifreke Effiong silenced the vociferous Pillars fans with the equaliser in the 6oth minute but in just two minutes Junior restored his side’s lead.

In Akure, Bala Yahuza and Franklin Sasere scored a goal each to ensure Sunshine Stars continued with their dominance over Rivers United as they defeated the ‘pride of Rivers’ 2-0.

Kwara United also recorded their first win of the season as Stephen Alfred’s 14th minute goal proved enough to hand the ‘Afonja Warriors’ the maximum points against Wikki Tourists.

MFM bounced also back from the 3-1 loss against ElKanemi Warriors to beat FC IfeanyiUbah 2-1 at the Agege Township Stadium with Jesse Akila and Sikiru Olatunbosun the goal scorers. Pascal Seka scored the visitors consolatory goal.

In Enugu, Rangers left it late to beat Katsina United 1-0 when diminutive midfielder Godwin Aguda scored the heart-breaking goal in the 84th minute.
