50 Kebbi rural communities get drinking water
More than 50 communities in four local government areas of Jega, Gwandu, Augie and Argungu areas of Kebbi State are to enjoy safe drinking water as Tulsi Chanrai Foundation ( TCF) supported by Bacardi Martini and the state government have started constructing hand -pump bore holes in villages of the local government areas.
The TFC Program Manager, Water, Mr. Syed Murshed Imam, while handing over the maintenance tools and materials to the local area mechanics in Birnin Kebbi, told our correspondent that the project was a village level water initiative.
He said it was to ensure that over 80 percent of the people in the state had access to sustainable good drinking water within a short period of time.
He stated that with the technical support of the state government, TCF, Bacardi Martini and Kebbi State Rural Water and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) had rehabilitated over 50 hand-pump bore holes within the benefitting local government areas.
He added that the previous water projects in the rural areas of the state were not community friendly. “This time we have friendly user pumps. We now have local mechanics who have been trained on the repairs and maintenance of the pumps in all the rural communities where the water projects are,” he said.
The Acting Station Manager of RUWASA, Engineer Muhammed Yelwa said the essence of the hand pump bore holes repair and maintenance was to ensure that good drinking water is stained in the state.
