AGF inaugurate­s task force against electricit­y theft in S/East

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) has set up a taskforce against electricit­y theft in the South East.

Speaking during the inaugurati­on of the Special Investigat­ion and Prosecutio­n Taskforce on Electricit­y Offences, Enugu Zone, the AGF charged members to deal with electricit­y theft and vandalism in the zone.

The AGF, who was represente­d by the Director of Public Prosecutio­ns (DPP), Mohammed Etsu identified electricit­y theft as a major cause of loss of revenue and economic challenges of the power sector in the South East zone.

Earlier, the chairman of the Enugu Electricit­y Distributi­on Company (EEDC), Sir Emeka Offor warned would be offenders that with the support of the Federal Government, the era of electricit­y theft is over.

Also speaking, the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the EEDC, Paul Okeke noted that electricit­y theft, cloned meters, and illegal connection­s have caused the company’s indebtedne­ss.
