AGF inaugurates task force against electricity theft in S/East
The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) has set up a taskforce against electricity theft in the South East.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Special Investigation and Prosecution Taskforce on Electricity Offences, Enugu Zone, the AGF charged members to deal with electricity theft and vandalism in the zone.
The AGF, who was represented by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mohammed Etsu identified electricity theft as a major cause of loss of revenue and economic challenges of the power sector in the South East zone.
Earlier, the chairman of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), Sir Emeka Offor warned would be offenders that with the support of the Federal Government, the era of electricity theft is over.
Also speaking, the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the EEDC, Paul Okeke noted that electricity theft, cloned meters, and illegal connections have caused the company’s indebtedness.
