Arranged marriage has been in existence since time memorial, Arranged marriage is a type of marital union where the bride and groom are selected by individuals other than the couples themselves, particularly family members, such as the parents depending on culture, a professional matchmaker may be used.
Arranged marriage can take a variety of forms ranging from forced marriages (where either the bride or the groom or both, have no choice in the matter) to consensual marriages (where the bride and groom have allowed outside parties to bring them together) forced marriages, while still practiced in some cultures, are generally considered beneath international norms and have been condemned.
Arranged marriage combination of factors:
Child marriage: child marriage, particularly those below the age of 12, does not prepare or provide the individual much opportunity to make an informed free choice of matrimony. Parents arrange child marriages to ensure their child financial security, reinforce social ties and reduce the daughters economic burden on the family due to how costly it is to feed.
Poverty: In improvised communities every adult mouth to feed becomes a counting burden. Because they believe in their cultures women or daughters become the greatest burden to the family.
Late Marriage: late marriages particularly past the age of 30 reduce the pool of available bachelorettes for autonomous marriages.
Limited choices: Migrant minority ethnic populations have limits choice of partners, particularly when they are stereotype, segregated or avoided by the majority population
Physical Disabilities: Certain physical disabilities increase the likelihood of arranged marriages. Custom, Bride wealth and religion are also factors that causes arranged marriage.
Forced marriages are decreasing as people are becoming more educated. Forced marriages can include, forced marriage by parents families and communities: it occurs when parents or other family members force one or both of the participants into the marriage. Secondly, there is kidnapping for the purpose of forced marriage: it has to do with women and girls have been kidnapped by men to serve as second wives in a polygamous marriage.
Forced marriages by partners: An abusive partner forces the other partner into marriage through the use of violence or threat of violence.
The ratio of those who end up in happy homes or in unstable homes as a result of arranged marriage cannot be fully ascertained, however arranged marriage can be described as a phenomenon that isn’t disappearing anytime soon.
