Katsina com­mu­nity wants gov’t to tackle gully ero­sion

Gun­dawa com­mu­nity in Ketare Dis­trict of Kankara Llo­cal Gov­ern­ment of Katsina State has called on the state gov­ern­ment to ad­dress the eco­log­i­cal prob­lem threat­en­ing their en­vi­ron­ment.

The vil­lage head, Al­haji Bilya Hus­saini, who made the call dur­ing the of­fi­cial launch­ing of a com­puter train­ing pro­gramme or­ga­nized by the Kanwa of Katsina and dis­trict head of Ketare, Al­haji Us­man Bello Kankara, said the call be­came nec­es­sary as the rainy sea­son is fast ap­proach­ing.

Ac­cord­ing to him, if left unchecked, the gully ero­sion could de­stroy houses, farm­lands and prop­er­ties.

“Peo­ple the area through com­mu­nal ef­forts have tried to check the ero­sion but its be­yond their con­trol, that is why we are call­ing on the state Min­istry of En­vi­ron­ment to as a mat­ter of ur­gency come to our aid,” he said.

While thank­ing the of dis­trict head for all the things in­tro­duced for the de­vel­op­ment of his sub­jects, Hus­saini pledged to sup­port the com­puter train­ing pro­gramme.

In his re­marks, Al­haji Bello Kankara promised to for­ward their com­plaints to the rel­e­vant au­thor­i­ties for nec­es­sary ac­tion and stressed the im­por­tance of com­puter lit­er­acy in the twenty first cen­tury.

He said the com­puter train­ing pro­gramme was or­ga­nized to give the peo­ple of the area an abil­ity to face the chal­lenges of the dig­i­tal age.
