Reps recount virtues of late Buba Jibril

- By Ozibo Ozibo

Members of the House of Representatives yesterday took turn to extol the virtues of the late Buba Jibril, in a valedictory session held in his honour.

Jibril, who died on March 30, at the age of 58 at his Abuja residence, was a three-term lawmaker representing Kogi/Lokoja Federal Constituency of Kogi State. He was also the Deputy Leader of the House of Reps.

Mohammed Monguno (Borno) recalled how he first met late Jibril at the 7th Assembly and how he (Jibril) influenced him thereafter.

“My last contact with Jibril was on Thursday when he told me he was going to his constituency. I also had the privilege of serving in the 7th assembly. Jibril happened to be my immediate neighbour in sitting arrangement in the House.

“I can attest to the fact that Jibril was a team player and a grassroots mobilizer, who championed the interests of his people and served humanity well in the course of his sojourn on earth,” Monguno submitted.

Monguno advised his colleagues and family of the departed lawmaker to take solace in the fact that late Jibril left indelible legacies, as a politician, an architect and a family man.

Tajudeen Yusuf (Kogi) said Jibril was unassuming and “You find him in places you least expected - naming ceremonies, marriages, etc.”

“We both attended the same university and we share the same senatorial district. He is no more but he is still with us. He made sure his constituency felt the presence of government.”

Speaker Yakubu Dogara, said the late Buba Jibril lived a unique life worthy of emulation. He prayed God to grant his soul eternal rest and comfort his family and dependants.
