Firms to set up $150m pipe plant in Edo
The managing director, Atlantique Marine and Engineering Services Limited (AMES), Charles Akhigbe, has said that the company, in collaboration with UDECM Incorporated, United States of America, has concluded arrangement to construct a $150 million pipe plant in Edo State.
Akhigbe disclosed this, Tuesday, in Benin when he led the chairman of UDECM, Albert Rau, and other management team members on a courtesy call on Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki.
He said the plant, when completed, would have the capacity of producing 250,000 tons of pipes and coated pipes per annum.
Akhigbe said the company has already secured funding for the project and that it will create about 700 direct and 1000 indirect jobs. He said the plant will commence production of pipes and coated pipes for the oil and gas and construction industries among others within one year
On his part, UDECM chairman, Albert Rau, said they were in the state on a facility tour of the project site and to also pay a courtesy call on the state governor.
He said the group also intends to set up a skill acquisition centre for the training of youths in all fields of pipe construction and welding among others.
Responding, Governor Godwin Obaseki assured of his administration’s support, especially in the area of security and providing the enabling environment for the project to succeed.
