Umar NBBF inaugurate­s league board, Kida faction signs N60m deal

The Tijani Umar-led Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) board yesterday inaugurate­d an interim League Management Board (LMB) to administer the Nigerian Premier Basketball League sponsored Kwese Sports.

Umar inaugurate­d the board at the opening ceremony of the preseason training for basketball technical officials in Abuja.

The 2018 Kwese Premier Basketball League season is expected to start on May 6.

While speaking at the inaugurati­on, Umar said it was imperative to set up a viable league for Nigeria’s basketball.

He then urged club officials, coaches, and other stakeholde­rs to continue to support the developmen­t of basketball.

Meanwhile, the Musa Kida led faction of the NBBF yesterday signed a two-year deal with Total to sponsor the nation’s basketball league. by

The Managing Director, Total Upstream Companies in Nigeria, Nicolas Terraz, speaking at the unveiling/signing ceremony yesterday in Lagos, said the company was determined to support basketball at the grassroots.

NAN reports that Total has provided N60, 000,000 for NBBF to organise the National Division One and Two Basketball championsh­ips for the next two seasons.

Terraz said the company was delighted to throw their weight on basketball as it was a very meaningful tool to develop the youth of Nigeria.

Musa Kida, the President, NBBF, said that he was delighted about the historical agreement between the current board and Total.

He said that this was part of his cardinal goals and objectives to develop basketball at the grassroots, so youths and other stakeholde­rs can compete right in their backyards.
