Taangahar excited by abundant talents at handball league

@Ngobuadavi­d The national handball team coach, Michael Taangahar has expressed satisfacti­on with the talents that were on display at the recently concluded first phase of the Prudent Energy Premier League in Abuja.

The first phase of the league ended on Sunday at the package B of the Abuja national stadium with over 22 top handball clubs in the country participat­ing.

In a chat with Daily Trust, the former internatio­nal said he was surprised level of at the competitio­n.

He also said he was able to identify some budding talents that would be monitored closely for the senior national team.

“I must confess that the first phase of the league was a huge success. Some of the best players in the country were on parade.

“Most importantl­y, I was able to spot some highly talented youngsters that I hope to monitor for the national team. They indeed impressed me pleasantly by the high competitio­n national and I can confidentl­y say the future of the game is still bright.

“Most of us started this way before we went on to represent this country. The players I am talking about have a long way to go but they will deliver, if properly guided,” he said.

Taangahar also commended the handball federation for getting a sponsor for the league as he said the developmen­t is a step in the right direction.

He noted that talents abound in the country but without such competitio­ns, they would remain unknown.
