Benue: 10 first class traditional rulers get staff of office
Ten new first class chiefs in Benue State received their staff of office from Governor Samuel Ortom yesterday.
The new monarchs include: Abu King Shuluwa (Tor Sankera), Julius Aondona Adaga (Tor Gwer), Moses Mfave Anagende (Tor Lobi), David Afatyo Ajoko (Tor Jemgbah) as well as Ambrose Pine Iyortyer (Tor Kwande).
Others are: Chiefs Clement Kparevfa Uganden (Tor Jechira), Emmanuel Okochi (Och’Otukpo/ Ohimini), Francis Obande Obeya (Och’Enone), Baba Odangla (Och’Apa/Agatu) and Oga Ero (Adirahu Ny’Igede).
Ortom, while performing the ceremony at the IBB Square in Makurdi, charged the new monarchs to respect and comply with the laws of the land.
The governor used the opportunity to inform that his administration had approved an upward review in the remuneration of traditional rulers in the state so as to give the institution its well-deserved boost.
Ortom added that the government expects that the traditional rulers would play their much needed role in the promotion of peace, unity and harmony in their various domains.
Remarking, the Chairman of Benue State Traditional Council, Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse, urged the people of the state to go and register to obtain their voters cards to be eligible to vote for candidates of their choice in 2019.
