Senate probes OAU sex for mark scandal
The Senate yesterday commenced investigation into the sex for mark scandal involving Monica Osagie and Professor Richard Akindele at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ife.
The probe is to be jointly conducted by the committees on Institutions and Human Rights matters.
The probe followed a motion by Senator Biodun Olujimi (PDP, Ekiti).
Prof Osagie was recently alleged to have demanded for sex from Osagie to increase her Senate Tertiary Judiciary, and Legal grades.
Olujimi said the case “Deserves greater scrutiny and attention as it signposts on how serious we are as a nation to fully and exhaustively eliminate this perversion from our schools.”
The Senate also resolved to invite the OAU authorities to explain steps so far taken and the outcome of the internal investigation on the matter.
Senate President Bukola Saraki said any member of the University found wanting must be punished.
Senate also passed a resolution urging the Legal Aid Council to step up efforts to ensure that minors in prisons were not prosecuted without legal representation.
