The Benue State House of Assembly has passed a bill that prohibits same sex marriage and prescribes a 14-year jail term for any person convicted of the offence.

Speaker of the House, Terkimbi Ikyange, announced resolve of the members to outlaw any marriage contract or civil union entered into between persons of same sex in the state.
