48-yr-old Usman Alhaji picks Rescue party presidenti­al forms

Forty-eight year-old Usman Ibrahim Alhaji, yesterday, declared his 2019 presidenti­al ambition under the banner of the National Rescue Movement (NRM).

The NRM has Senator Saidu Mohammed Dansadau as its national chairman.

Alhaji, born in Makurdi, Benue State but an indigene of Kebbi State is a graduate of Library and Informatio­n Science, University of Maiduguri and a profession­al educationi­st.

The aspirant, while making the declaratio­n at an event in Abuja, said he belonged to a new generation of “youthful patriots with a burning desire to contribute his evident dynamism, creativity and newer perspectiv­es among other qualities that align with today’s realities and rapidly progressiv­e developmen­ts in human and socio-economic endeavours for national transforma­tion”.

He said: “It is no longer a waiting game for our generation but a golden, God-sent opportunit­y to muster the courage of our conviction and take-over every platform for informed, intelligen­t, inspired and incorrigib­le services to the fatherland within the democratic structures as a matter of right.”

According to him, “The past has been determined by the elders and Godwilling, tomorrow belongs to the youth. If the youth will be up to the task of being tomorrow’s leaders, then they have to take charge today,” he said.

Alhaji, during his stint with the National Library of Nigeria (NLN), served as head of Digitizati­on and Digital Collection, member representi­ng National Library at the National Informatio­n Technology Developmen­t Agency (NITDA) stakeholde­rs’ interactiv­e forum and member, National Library of Nigeria Informatio­n and Commutatio­n Technology Committee.

He is currently a businessma­n, managing two educationa­l consulting companies and one agro allied company. The 2019 presidenti­al election race took a new dimension yesterday as Dr. Elishama Rosemary Ideh made known her intention to contest for the office under the platform of Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN).

Dr. Elishama who said she was not motivated by personal ambition, said she was only answering a clarion call of destiny, a historic summons to save her beloved nation from the path of perdition.

“Is not all about me; it is really about you- your hopes and dreams for yourselves, your families and community and for this country we call our home”, she added.

Addressing various groups in Abuja, yesterday Dr. Elishama promised to give the youths a reason to believe in Nigeria again.

To the women, she stated that, “I am the only hope for your true empowermen­t as equal partners in the holistic developmen­t of our nation beginning with the family unit and the community.”
