10 persons feared dead in Bayelsa cult clash
Ten persons were yesterday feared killed in a renewed cult clash in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, following a clash between two cult groups.
A source said the two groups, identified as Greenlanders and Bobos, clashed in a struggle for supremacy and control of the coastal town.
Residents, particularly those residing on Obogoro, Punch Road, Ebis road along Biogbolo, Obele along down Yenagoa, Sandfill along the hospital road and Goodnews street along Azikoro Village road are now living in fear, the source said.
One person was reportedly gunned down on Sunday night at Obogoro while the rival group revenged on Tuesday at Obele by killing an opposition member.
Following the revenge, the spate of killings continued as two boys were reportedly shot dead on Tuesday night at Sandfill area with their corpses left at Goodnews junction and Punch Road area on Wednesday afternoon and night respectively.
There was sporadic shooting at Punch road, along Imgbi road with one person left dead. The dead person was identified as T. Juice said to be a Greenlander member and an indigene of Ogbia Local Government Area of the state.
A source told Daily Trust that the alleged member of Greenlanders was shot in the head alongside his friend, whose name was yet unknown. Juice was said to have initially escaped before the attackers opened fire on him. The killers were however said to have escaped through the OMPADEC road before a detachment of policemen arrived the scene.
The police spokesman in Bayelsa, DSP AsImin Butswat, could not be reached as he was not picking calls put across to his number nor did he reply a text message sent to him.
