Police declare 59 persons wanted over terrorism in A’Ibom
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has declared 59 persons wanted for terrorism and insecurity in Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo local government areas of the state.
According to a list made available in Uyo, yesterday, signed by the Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, the persons were alleged to be sponsors and ring leaders of the incessant violence in the two council areas.
Ogunjemilusi who confirmed the release of the kidnapped Obong University students, said apart from the students, “others are still yet to be freed.”
He revealed that the police had launched a manhunt to free other captives still in the custody of their abductors. He added that many of the troubled areas in the two affected LGAs had been freed and the displaced people were returning home.
He said collaborative security operations, consisting of the police, navy, army and other security agencies working together with local communities, have been intensified in the past one week to displace the criminals and their sponsors from the areas.
“The listed suspects are still within the crises areas. Difficult terrain and equipment have been hindering our operations.
“Even the Blue River at Azumini that they (the criminals) always used to migrate into Abia, Rivers and other neighbouring states after operations is too shallow for navy boats,” he said.
