Resumption of police recruits for training ends today - PSC

The Police Service Commission (PSC) said newly recruited police constables are expected at their different training colleges nationwide today.

A statement yesterday by the spokesman of the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani said, the Commission on Thursday, June 7, 2018 uploaded the list of 6,491 successful candidates on its recruitmen­t portal, psc.org.ng <http://psc. org.ng> with specific instructio­ns on how, when and where to report for training.

He said the training colleges were opened to admit the new recruits from Friday, June 8, and will last till today June 13, 2018.

He added that, successful candidates Nigeria has congratula­ted United States President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on the historic achievemen­t made at the summit in Singapore on Tuesday.

The summit, the first of its kind between a sitting US President and North Korea’s leader, ended in a joint agreement, including a pledge from Kim to rid the Korean peninsula of nuclear weapons.

Nigeria commended the bold step taken by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to dismantle the nuclear launch site as an indication of the determinat­ion to the peace process, Nigeria’s Ministry of foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The statement by the ministry’s spokespers­on Tope Adeleye Elias-Fatile, were required to visit the Police Command Headquarte­rs in their states of origin to check their names and colleges for training.

Ani said 6,491 candidates were recruited, 491 higher than the presidenti­al approval of 6,000.

He said recent recruitmen­t exercise where 10,000 were to be enlisted, only about 9,000 passed out at the end of the exercise due to various reasons, including certificat­e forgery.

He said the Police have complained of lack of manpower especially at the Constable level and wanted to maximize the benefit of the presidenti­al approval by ensuring that 6,000 Constables were admitted at the end of the training programme. in said Nigeria is optimistic that the two nations would uphold the commitment­s made during the landmark summit.

“The success of the historic summit is a demonstrat­ion of commitment by the relevant parties towards de-escalation of tension in the Korean Peninsula and a consolidat­ion of the earlier achievemen­t made during the InterKorea­n Summit of 27th April, 2018, resulting in the Panmunjom Declaratio­n between the leaders of the Koreas.

“On the whole, Nigeria appreciate­s the efforts by all parties involved in the process of the successful Summit, especially the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, United States of America, People’s Republic of China, Republic of Korea, Japan and Singapore,” it said.
