FCT private schools shun UBEC's personnel audit
Private schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja have shunned the ongoing national personnel audit by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). The exercise was meant to collect data of all public and private schools in the country.
The team led by the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr Hamid Bobboyi and the Chairman Governing Board of UBEC, Dr Mahmud Mohammed, yesterday, visited LEA Primary School Gwagwalada, Hayil Sa’id Model Primary School Gwagwalada, LEA Primary School Dawaki in Bwari and Government Secondary School Garki.
The team leader of UBEC national personnel audit at LEA Primary School Dawaki in Bwari, Abive Okwah told UBEC delegation that private schools in the area refused to participate in the exercise.
“We have succeeded in capturing most of the public schools but our challenge is private schools. Most of them refused to participate. In some schools we were not allowed in. Some said that NAPPS did not inform them about the exercise,” he said.
UBEC’s Executive Secretary, Dr Hamid Bobboyi said UBEC included private schools for the first time to get more information and gather accurate data.
The President of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), FCT Wing, Mrs Olushola Bankole said their members did not shun the exercise.
“We didn’t shun the exercise. Our members are in total support of this exercise. We are trying our best to reach out to them to ensure they participate fully in the exercise,” she said.
