Woman, 5 children found dead at home in Edo

- From Usman A. Bello, Benin

A woman and her five children were yesterday found dead in their house in the Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.

It was gathered that the tragedy happened at Akpata Street, when the family put on a generator in their kitchen on Monday night and left it running throughout the night

The father of the deceased children, identified as Tochukwu Okwueze, was also found in a state of coma when the door was opened and was taken to the hospital.

The corpses were said to have been deposited at the Central Hospital morgue.

A relative of the deceased, who identified himself as Vincent, said his younger one called him from Lagos that he should go to his brother’s house that something not pleasing to the ears had just happened.

“So, when I called her (deceased woman) line, somebody picked the call and said that they (victims) slept and did not wake up,” he said.

He said the whole family was affected. But the police told me that their father survived it. They said that though his case was serious, if there was the need to rush him to University of Benin Teaching Hospital, they would call me. It is a family of seven. The youngest is a set of twins.”

When contacted, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo, who confirmed the incident, said investigation is on-going on the matter.
