NIMC partners W/Bank to fund identity scheme
The partnership sealed between the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and the World Bank on the funding of Nigeria’s identity registration scheme will kick off soon.
The funding would commence after approval by the Federal Executive Council, the Director General of NIMC Aliyu Abubakar Aziz has said.
He disclosed this to the CEO/ Editor in Chief of Media Trust Limited, Malam Manir Dan Ali and some other member of staff of the Trust titles who visited the commission’s headquarters in Abuja yesterday.
Aziz said though the number of Nigerians and legal residents so far registered had climbed to 31million, the partnership between NIMC and the World Bank would further increase the figure.
He said would also equipment experienced commission.
The DG said the commission had come up with Ecosystem Approach which gives room for all government agencies and players in the private sector the partnership solve inadequate issue being by the to capture and register people and send the data to NIMC.
He said other development partners like France’s AFD, EU had also agreed to help in funding the identity scheme so long as NIMC and other agencies involved with identification worked together.
He said the commission was working to have enrolment centres in each of the 774 local government areas across the country.
He said Nigerians could check the status of their unique identity numbers by dialling *346# on their phones.
