Scores ab­ducted on Birnin-Gwari road

Gun­men ab­ducted of travelers Kaduna-Birnin road.

The men were trav­el­ing in a long ve­hi­cle said to be head­ing to La­gos when they were stopped by the gun­men around a small vil­lage near Bu­ruku.

A driver, Malam Awalu, who wit­nessed the in­ci­dent, said the gun­men shot at the tyre of the ve­hi­cle which yes­ter­day scores on the -Gwari was used ce­ment.

He said the truck had emp­tied the ce­ment bags it brought to Kaduna and was re­turn­ing with scores of peo­ple to La­gos when the men tried to stop then and shot at the tyres.

“When the ve­hi­cle stopped, the gun­men asked all the peo­ple in the ve­hi­cle to come down and they led them into the bush,” he said.

He said 16 of the men how­ever ran back as they were be­ing led fur­ther into to trans­port the bush but said he did not see the gun­men pur­sue them.

“I can­not tell you the ex­act num­ber of men that they ab­ducted but they were many in the trailer. But 16 of them ran back in the op­po­site di­rec­tion,” he said.

The driver said he saw two other ve­hi­cles parked by the side of the road but can­not tell whether their pas­sen­gers were also vic­tims of ab­duc­tion.

The po­lice pub­lic re­la­tions of­fi­cer ASP Mukhtar Hus­saini Aliyu, when con­tacted, said re­ports from that axis in­di­cated there was an at­tempt by some gun­men on Wed­nes­day to stop some ve­hi­cles on that route, but that the po­lice quickly moved in and chased the ban­dits.

The PPRO said he spoke with both the Di­vi­sional Po­lice Of­fi­cer and the area com­man­der and there was no re­port of ab­duc­tion of Thurs­day.

He said the po­lice were comb­ing the area with a few to pre­vent­ing such.
