Sus­pen­sion: Adeo­sun seeks time to re­spond to Gwarzo’s claims

The Min­is­ter of Fi­nance, Kemi Adeo­sun has asked for more time to re­ply to the suit by sus­pended for­mer Direc­tor Gen­eral of the Se­cu­ri­ties and Ex­change Com­mis­sion (SEC) Mounir Gwarzo.

Coun­sel to the min­is­ter, Chinedu Achu­mie, who yes­ter­day, ac­knowl­edged ser­vice of the suit filed be­fore the Na­tional In­dus­trial Court in Abuja on April 6, said they were yet to re­ply.

Coun­sel to the SEC, Chris Uche (SAN) in­formed the court that the com­mis­sion had been served and also filed a pre­lim­i­nary ob­jec­tion chal­leng­ing the claimant’s suit.

Af­ter lis­ten­ing to the submissions, Jus­tice Sanusi Kado or­dered ser­vice of the court pro­cesses on the At­tor­ney Gen­eral of the Fed­er­a­tion (AGF) Abubakar Malami (SAN) and ad­journed the suit to Oc­to­ber 24. Gwarzo sued Adeo­sun, the SEC and the At­tor­ney Gen­eral of the Fed­er­a­tion (AGF).

In the suit filed by his coun­sel, Ab­dul­ha­keem Mustapha (SAN), Gwarzo is chal­leng­ing the pow­ers of the min­is­ter to sus­pend him from of­fice as his ap­point­ment was by the Pres­i­dent and con­firmed by the Se­nate in ac­cor­dance with Sec­tion 5(1) and (2) of the In­vest­ments and the re­port of the Ad­min­is­tra­tive Panel of In­quiry, Se­cu­ri­ties Act 2007.
