In a closely-fought encounter Joseph Diaz Jr from South El Monte, California, won on a 12-round unanimous points decision over secondary WBA featherweight champion Jesus Rojas of Puerto Rico at the Avalon Theater in Hollywood, California, on Saturday night.

The bout was originally scheduled for Rojas’ belt but Diaz failed to make the weight, so the fight went ahead as a non-title bout.

The scores were 117-111, 116-112, and 115-113.

Diaz made a fast start as he worked in close and possibly took the first two rounds, with both fighters continuing in close, exchanging punches in rounds three and four.

Rojas kept pushing forward through rounds five to eight but was stunned with a combination of punches from the southpaw Diaz in the ninth round.
