WAAPP president warns against impeachment
President of the West African Association of Political Parties (WAAPP), Chief Perry Opara, has warned against the looming impeachment moves against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
Chief Opara, the newly elected WAAPP president, said in a statement yesterday that the National Assembly should discard the idea of any planned impeachment proceedings on either Senate President Saraki or President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said such moves were capable of “spelling doom to our fledgling democracy.”
Opara also said any impeachment attempt would affect the affairs of the nation as the two leaders were key to Nigeria’s development, the wellbeing of the citizens and the 2019 general elections.
“Any conceived impeachment will affect the approval of the supplementary budget applied by the president so that INEC can conduct 2019 general elections, and any attempt to overheat the polity is an invitation to anarchy and chaos which may lead to invitation of the military,” he said.
He called on politicians to exercise patriotism and focus on how to convince people to get their votes rather than overheating the polity with hate speech and harsh rhetorics.
Opara expressed unhappiness over the ongoing development between the APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and the National Assembly.
